Atrial Fibrillation, or A-Fib, is an abnormal heart rhythm, which can lead to serious health problems down the line.
A-Fib can affect the “pumping” function of the heart, which can lead to stagnant blood flow and can potentially result in blood clots and more serious complications. If A-Fib is detected early on, it can be diagnosed and treated successfully. The goal of treatment for A-Fib is to reset the heart’s rhythm and prevent blood clots. To reset your normal heart rhythm, doctors use a process called cardioversion, which can be done with drugs or electrical pulses, depending on the stage and underlying cause of A-Fib. In some cases, surgical procedures may be used to correct the underlying cause of A-Fib.
